Protective covers on the Flyways prevent surface scratches during machine assembly and reduce the risk of abrasion from objects dragged across the surface during operation. This use case is different from covering Flyways for hygienic design, which is described in https://planarmotor.atlassian.net/wiki/x/WIUqBw.
A hygienic cover is primarily intended to eliminate crevices between Flyways. When the goal is only to protect the Flyway surface, sealing those crevices is unnecessary, so it is usually simpler to cover each Flyway individually. We recommend using a thin sheet of one of the following materials:
-
Vinyl film less than 0.3 mm thick, such as https://www.3mcanada.ca/3M/en_CA/p/d/b40066706/; apply it with a suitable application liquid and a soft squeegee to remove trapped liquid and air bubbles.
-
Fully annealed 316L stainless steel, 0.1 mm thick, cut to the size of the Flyway and adhered with double-sided tape such as https://www.3mcanada.ca/3M/en_CA/p/d/b40071696/.
